A new performer has taken center stage for the Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts Council.
Karen D’Aloisio, an 8th Grade Math Teacher at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School, has been named the President of the Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts Council.
The Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts Council is a 501 © (3) organization that was founded in 2022 and is composed of parents and family members of Bridgewater-Raritan High School students.
And the person on stage–or in this case, behind it—who attracted Karen D’Aloisio to the auditorium is Paige D’Aloisio, Karen’s daughter, who is a junior at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
Paige D'Aloisio is also a member of the high school’s Thespian Honor Society, Troupe No. 5154, while she is involved in the Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts program. She worked as an assistant stage manager for the high school productions during her sophomore year.
Thus, Karen D’Aloisio became a theatre goer—and she liked what she saw.
“Paige is very involved, and by default, I really got to like the theatre,” Karen D’Aloisio said. “I got involved so I can help make the program successful."
She makes it a point to get involved in the school district
She is the Treasurer of the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association (BREA), which is the professional Union that represents staff members in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District. Ms. D’Aloisio also serves as the BREA Co-Chief Association Representative for the Middle School, where she also coaches the outdoor track and field team in the spring.
The highly acclaimed Theatre Arts program at Bridgewater-Raritan High School is guided by the energetic and devoted director, Heather Diaforli-Day, who is a Theatre and Music teacher at the school, too.
Under the leadership of Ms. Diaforli-Day, the student actors and crew members have produced hit shows and have received rave reviews.
The high school’s auditorium was buzzing last school year when such productions as the Fall Play, Radium Girls, and the Spring Musical, Footloose, were performed before large audiences.
According to the Visual and Performing Arts page on the Bridgewater-Raritan High School website, the goal of the Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts Council is to support the high school’s Theatre Arts Department and the Thespian Honor Society, Troupe No. 5154. The members provide assistance in a variety of ways—volunteers to build sets, usher and sell tickets and concessions at shows, provide food during rehearsals, and financial support for theatre program needs
Karen D’Aloisio took over as President for Jim Maloney, who shifted over to serve as the Secretary after his dedication and passion helped mold the organization.
The other members of the Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts Council Executive Board are Sandeep Bal, who is the Treasurer, Asya Dvorkin, who is the Membership Coordinator, and Rebecca Hassouna, who is the Fundraising Coordinator.
The Executive Board and Ms. Diaforli-Day are prepared for what should be another star-studded school year on the stage.
"We are thrilled to kick off another exciting year with Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts, presenting The Outsiders in the fall and Little Shop of Horrors in the spring, along with our Fall Theatre Soiree and the June theatre Showcase,” Ms. Diaforli-Day stated. “Our program continues to shine through its commitment to excellence in theatre, inclusive programming, and the incredible support of our parent community.”
She is anxious to work with Karen D’Aloisio
“This year, we are especially excited to welcome Karen D’Aloisio as our new Bridgewater-Raritan Theatre Arts Council president—her leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen parent involvement and build connections within our program,’ Ms. Diaforli-Day said.
Karen D’Aloisio is determined to achieve her next mission.
“We want the membership to grow.”
