Logan is a 3rd Grade student at the Hamilton Primary School who fondly remembers when he was a younger pupil.

“I remembered when we read with older kids, this one student helped me solve a mystery puzzle,” Logan recalled.

Logan was now “the older kid” when he read and worked with younger schoolmates when Hamilton held its first Reading Buddies session of the school year on Friday morning, September 12.

The program, which is under the guidance of the school’s highly dedicated Principal Tim Beaumont, brings the older students into the classes of the younger grades, where they team up and read.

“One of our key goals at Hamilton Primary School this year is to encourage our students' enthusiasm for reading, as literacy is the gateway to all other learning,” Principal Beaumont explained. “Our Reading Buddies program pairs a younger class with an older class on a regular basis to read together. Students hear a story read by their teachers, then read to one another, and then read independently. “

A few of Logan’s 3rd Grade classmates also had positive comments during the session.

“I enjoyed it,’ said Noah.

“I liked reading to the younger kids,” said Maria.

This popular program will be held on the second Friday of every month through June.

Principal Beaumont was pleased with the results of the first session of the school year.

“It was great to see our Hamilton Tigers so engaged in reading during the first Reading Buddies session of the year this morning!”
