Each year, Lockheed Martin, an aerospace and defense company, is the host to Code Quest, an annual international computer programming competition, taking place in person at Lockheed Martin facilities and virtually. According to Dr.Eleni Arapaki, the AP Physics 1 and Teacher at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, teams of three high school students work together to solve problems by using JAVA, Python, C#, and/or C++ programming to complete the “quest”. The problem set consists of 20 to 30 challenging problems created by Lockheed Martin engineers and computer programmers. The students have to solve as many problems as possible within a 2.5-hour time limit by writing software programs that produce a predetermined output from a given set of input. US-based attendees at these events are offered the opportunity to apply for one of several summer internships across the Lockheed Martin corporation. Bridgewater-Raritan High School participated in the Code Quest held on March 1 in Lockheed Martin’s facility in Moorestown. Dr. Arapaki and Ken Mascola, the Advanced Topics in Computer Science Teacher at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, brought three teams to compete in the advanced division. The Greek Gods (Anthony Channg, Ian Francis, and Foteini Gallou) placed 8th on site, the Eastern Engineers (Arya Vadya, Luvyakrish Manche, and Navneet Kalatheeswaran) placed 6th, and The Void Team (Jeffrey Hu, Ethan Pear, and Anika Seshan) ranked fourth. "Congratulations to all our kids for their dedication and hard work," Dr. Arapaki said. Dr. Arapaki reported, “during the event, the students and the teachers had the opportunity to attend presentations on information about Lockheed Martin scholarships and internships, as well as career opportunities on AI & machine learning, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, engineering & technology, finance & business operations, IT, and technical operations”
